Ryan Flaherty is batting second and playing second base again for Double-A Bowie, and J.J. Hardy is batting third and playing shortstop. They could be activated from the disabled list on Friday.
Flaherty seems to be a certainty. For Hardy, it depends how his left shoulder responds to playing three consecutive games.
The Baysox have an 11 a.m. game on Thursday and the Orioles will decide whether to subject Flaherty and Hardy to it.
Hardy is 3-for-8 with a double and RBI, and Flaherty is 2-for-7
Here are the pitching matchups for the four-game series at Yankee Stadium:
Thursday: Chris Tillman vs. Nathan Eovaldi
Friday: Miguel Gonzalez vs. Adam Warren
Saturday: Wei-Yin Chen vs. Chase Whitley
Sunday: Bud Norris vs. Michael Pineda
Machado will host the second annual Manny Machado BaseBOWL Tournament, a celebrity charity event to support Baltimore City’s Department of Recreation and Parks on Monday, May 18. The sold-out event will be held from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at Mustang Alleys Bar, Bowling and Bistro, located at 1300 Bank St.
The Orioles will donate $10,000 to Baltimore City Recreation and Parks as well as host participating youth at an upcoming Orioles home game through the OriolesREACH Gameday Experience Program. Members will receive game tickets, concessions, an Orioles t-shirt and cap, and transportation to and from the game.
The tournament will consist of two games with teams of five bowlers. Each team will be paired with a celebrity participant including current Orioles players and athletes from the local community. A silent auction featuring autographed sports memorabilia and other unique items will also be available throughout the event.
In its inaugural year in 2014, BaseBOWL raised more than $80,000 to support the Baltimore City Recreation Department’s eight-week “Play Baseball” campaign (via the Baltimore City Foundation). The initiative benefited 300 youth, ages 9-12, by supplying baseball equipment, uniforms, transportation and field refurbishment to play baseball during the summer at Baltimore City Recreation and Parks centers.
Shameless plug alert: I’m doing a live hit from Citi Field for “O’s Xtra” that begins at 6:30 p.m. on MASN.
