MIAMI – Orioles reliever Brian Matusz was ejected from tonight’s game against the Marlins with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning after umpires appeared to check his right arm.
The assumption is Matusz was tossed for having an illegal substance on his arm.

MIAMI – Orioles reliever Brian Matusz was ejected from tonight’s game against the Marlins with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning after umpires appeared to check his right arm.

Matusz retired the first two Marlins after replacing Oliver Drake, who worked three scoreless innings in his major league debut. Dan Jennings, in his sixth game as Miami’s manager after moving down from the front office, asked umpires to check Matusz.
Crew chief Paul Emmel touched Matusz’s arm. Orioles manager Buck Showalter raced onto the field, and Matusz slowly walked to the dugout. He didn’t seem to put up much of an argument.
T.J. McFarland replaced Matusz and struck out Christian Yelich to keep the game scoreless.
Milwaukee’s Will Smith was handed an eight-game suspension earlier this week for having sunscreen and rosin on his arm. It’s almost 11 p.m. here and the roof is closed. If Matusz was wearing sunscreen, it would be tough to explain.
We said it wouldn’t get weird.
We’re waiting for more information. We’re also waiting for this game to end.
The Orioles have one hit – Jimmy Paredes’ infield single in the 10th – since Travis Snider was thrown out at the plate to end the sixth.
Update: Martin Prado lined a single into center field with the bases loaded and two outs in the 13th to give Miami a 1-0 win over the Orioles.
McFarland walked Giancarlo Stanton intentionally to bring Prado to the plate.
