Mike Wright’s scoreless streak ended with the first batter he faced today. But he stuck around long enough to get a win, and the slumping Orioles offense came up with four early runs behind him.

Chicago won the first game, 3-2, behind Chris Sale who fanned 12.

The Orioles improved to 22-24 with their third win in five games and seventh in the last 12. They are 17-7 versus Chicago since 2012.

Entering this outing with 14 1/3 scoreless innings over his first two starts, Wright’s streak ended quickly. ChiSox leadoff batter Adam Eaton homered to left on a 3-1 pitch. It was his first career leadoff homer.

The O’s scored two in the first to get the lead. Ejected in Game 1, Manny Machado led off Game 2 with a triple – the Orioles’ first leadoff triple since Brian Roberts hit one Sept. 7, 2005.

Machado would later score on an Adam Jones RBI groundout, and then a Chris Davis RBI double made it a 2-1 game. It was Davis’ seventh RBI over his last four games.

Both teams scored twice in the third. Adam LaRoche hit a two-run homer for Chicago and the Orioles got RBI singles by Steve Clevenger and J.J. Hardy for a 4-3 lead.

The O’s extended the lead to 5-3 in the sixth. Ryan Flaherty led off with a double and, two batters later, scored on a Travis Snider single to center. It was Snider’s 10th RBI and first since April 23, ending a 20-game drought without one. David Lough singled in a run in the seventh for a 6-3 lead, scoring Clevenger, who had singled.

Wright was pulled after five innings. He gave up six hits and three runs with no walks and two strikeouts. He allowed two homers, throwing 81 pitches. With the win, he is now 2-0 with an ERA of 1.40 over three major league starts.

The Orioles bullpen shutdown Chicago over the last four innings. Oliver Drake walked three batters but somehow escaped that to put a up a zero in the sixth. Brad Brach pitched a 1-2-3 seventh, as Darren O’Day did in the eighth. Zach Britton closed it out with a 1-2-3 ninth for his 13th save in 14 chances.

The O’s bullpen allowed one run in seven innings in the doubleheader and has pitched to an ERA of 1.96 the last 12 games.

Tomorrow night,, the Orioles welcome the Tampa Bay Rays to town at 7:05 p.m, when Miguel Gonzalez (5-3, 3.83 ERA) faces right-hander Nathan Karns (3-2, 3.71 ERA).
