Tonight’s game between Triple-A Norfolk and Gwinnett at Harbor Park was postponed due to wet field conditions. The Tides will play a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Bud Norris will start Game 1, with Matt Wieters behind the plate. They’re expected to rejoin the Orioles on Thursday.
Norris has allowed 13 runs and 18 hits in 7 2/3 innings in two rehab starts, with no walks and eight strikeouts. He tossed three scoreless innings at Double-A Bowie before surrendering four runs over the final two innings.
Mike Wright is making his fourth major league start tonight, which again comes with great responsibility. The Orioles are 23-27 and trying to avoid dropping a season-high five games below .500.
Wright didn’t allow a run in his first two starts covering 14 1/3 innings, but he surrendered three runs in five innings in Game 2 of Thursday’s doubleheader against the White Sox. All the scoring came via home runs.
It was the first game where Wright allowed multiple home runs since June 6, 2014 at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre.
Right-handers are batting .114 against Wright in his three starts. Left-handers are hitting .265.
Houston’s Collin McHugh has won 12 of his last 14 decisions dating back to last season.
McHugh allowed four runs and nine hits in six innings against the Orioles on May 27, with no walks, five strikeouts and two home runs. He’s surrendered six runs and 16 hits over 12 1/3 innings in two career starts against the Orioles.
J.J. Hardy is 3-for-6 against McHugh, but he’s out of the lineup and scheduled to undergo an MRI on his left oblique. Adam Jones, back in center field tonight, is 3-for-6 with a home run.
Steve Pearce is 2-for-4 with a home run. Jimmy Paredes is 3-for-5 with a double. Steve Clevenger, on the bench tonight, is 2-for-3. Chris Davis is 1-for-3 with a home run.
The Orioles are a combined 15-for-41 (.366) against McHugh.
A reminder that Kevin Gausman threw a two-inning simulated game today in Houston and will start Saturday for Single-A Frederick in Wilmington.
Manager Buck Showalter, calling into MLB Network today, said second baseman Jonathan Schoop is “probably a couple weeks away.” Schoop is on the disabled list retroactive to April 18 with a sprained right knee.
