Six Orioles to sign calendars at BARCS on August 22

The Orioles today announced that the seventh annual Orioles Pet Calendar, sponsored by Pet+E.R., will go on sale Saturday, August 22, with proceeds benefiting the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS), a non-profit shelter that accepts and cares for all animals in need.

The 16-month calendar features photos of Orioles players with their pets and various BARCS animals at locations around Oriole Park at Camden Yards including the center field Roof Deck, Kids’ Corner, Legends Park, Eutaw Street, and on the field. Players who will be featured in this year’s calendar include: Brad Brach, Zach Britton, Wei-Yin Chen, Chris Davis, Kevin Gausman, Miguel Gonzalez, J.J. Hardy, Adam Jones, Caleb Joseph, David Lough, Manny Machado, Brian Matusz, Darren O’Day, Steve Pearce, Chris Tillman, Matt Wieters as well as manager Buck Showalter.

The 2016 calendar will be available for $15 at Oriole Park, the Orioles Team Store in the York Galleria in York, PA, and at www.orioles.com/petcalendar.

In further support of BARCS, Orioles players Brach, Gonzalez, Hardy, Lough, Tillman and Wieters will appear at BARCS (301 Stockholm Street) for an autograph signing from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on August 22. Fans who purchase a calendar can receive autographs, and fans attending the event may park for free in Lot J (adjacent to BARCS).

Additionally, on Sunday, August 23, the first 20,000 fans 15 and over who attend that day’s 1:35 p.m. game against the Minnesota Twins will receive an Orioles pet leash.

The Orioles have helped to raise $190,000 for BARCS over the past few years including $46,000 through Orioles per calendar sales in 2015. The largest companion animal shelter in Maryland, BARCS takes in more than 12,000 dogs and cats and 1,000 wildlife and other small mammals annually. On any given day, BARCS cares for 110 dogs and 110 cats in the shelter, plus more than 800 animals in foster care.

“We are extremely grateful for our partnership with the Orioles,” said Jennifer Brause, Executive Director of BARCS. “The Orioles Pet Calendar has helped us to showcase the wonderful adoptable animals we have at BARCS as well as raise much needed funds to help care for thousands of Baltimore’s homeless animals.”

Orioles catcher Wieters and his wife Maria were instrumental in the production of the 2016 Pet Calendar.

“BARCS is a special organization to me. One, because both my wife and I are involved with them. And two, the calendar [photo shoot] is a great event that a lot of the guys enjoy, taking pictures with animals, and we know it goes to help those animals find homes. Once you’re around those animals for a little bit you feel for them and want them to be able to find a good place to live,” said Wieters.
