Agreements need to be reached with bench coach John Russell, first base coach Wayne Kirby, third base coach Bobby Dickerson, pitching coach Dave Wallace, bullpen coach Dom Chiti, hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh and extra coach Einar Diaz.
“We’ve been talking to the coaches and we’ve made offers to the coaches on the staff. We’re working on assembling the staff for next year’s team,” Duquette said.
“We’re trying to get the strongest staff together that we can for our 2016 team. We’ve been working on it this week.”
Is Duquette confident that the staff will remain intact or is there any chance that he may need to make hires from outside the organization?
“We’ll see,” he replied. “We need a little more time to work on assembling what we want to be the strongest staff that we can assemble.”
Duquette also confirmed that the club is focusing on one-year deals.
“That’s what we’re working on,” he said.
One official said the coaches are “in demand,” which increases the urgency to get them signed in the coming weeks. There are growing concerns that the Orioles could lose one of them and it’s known that teams are checking on pitching coach Dave Wallace, though I’ve heard now that he’s likely to stay.
Manager Buck Showalter has stated that this may be his finest staff and he wants to keep the group together.
Note: Adrian Marin is the only Orioles minor leaguer in the Peoria Javelinas lineup for today’s Arizona Fall League game against the Surprise Saguaros. He’s 0-for-2 while leading off and playing third base.
Mike Yastrzemski homered last night for Peoria.
Left-hander Tanner Scott was added to the Javelinas’ roster, taking the spot vacated by Hunter Harvey.
