The Orioles now have the sons of both manager Buck Showalter and executive vice president Dan Duquette on their amateur scouting staffs. Nathan Showalter just completed his first season with the team and Dana Duquette was just hired.

The 24-year-old Duquette will scout New York, New Jersey and the New England area. He is replacing Kirk Fredriksson, who was promoted by the Orioles to the position of East Coast supervisor.

Baseballs glove.jpg“Dana has a great background in the game, obviously, through his father and and has a real good eye for talent. He’s a great addition for us,” O’s scouting director Gary Rajsich said.

The Orioles also recently hired 69-year-old veteran scout Tom Wheeler to work northern California and Nevada. Wheeler was most recently a pro scout for Milwaukee and was a scout for many years with the Cincinnati Reds. He replaces Jeff Stevens, who left the club to take a position with San Diego.

Nathan Showalter was the co-signing scout on four players from the 2015 First-Year Player Draft. They included right-handed pitcher Gray Fenter, a seventh-round pick who was signed to a $1 million bonus. Showalter also was one of two scouts involved with the signings of outfielder Jaylen Ferguson, a ninth-round pick; infielder Drew Turbin, a 14th-round selection; and catcher Stuart Levy, taken in the 27th round.
