Also, Ripken Baseball announced today that it will host a group of young baseball players from Iraq at the Ripken Academy and Camden Yards.
I’m checking on a rumor that Iraqi President Jalal Talabani doesn’t want Cal getting the credit if the kids end up being good.
The delegation, which includes 10 boys and girls ages 15-17 and five coaches, will be in the U.S. May 3-13 on a United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Sports Visitors Program. Ripken Baseball will host a clinic at the Ripken Academy on May 5, and Seattle Mariners outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. will teach a separate clinic on May 11 at Camden Yards.
The delegation also will tour the ballpark and observe batting practice.
If Ripken’s instructors are as good as advertised, one kid might be asked to bat with a runner in scoring position.
