Wieters left yesterday’s game after the top of the first inning with soreness in his surgically repaired elbow. He wasn’t scheduled to make the trip to Fort Myers for today’s game against the Twins.
It’s doubtful that Wieters will play Monday against the Phillies in Sarasota or make the trip Tuesday to Dunedin to play the Blue Jays.
T.J. McFarland played catch and threw a bullpen session this morning. He hasn’t pitched since leaving a March 6 game against the Red Sox with discomfort in his left elbow.
McFarland looked good during his session. He no longer has inflammation in the elbow and should rejoin the bullpen.
Assistant athletic trainer Brian Ebel watched McFarland throw, along with manager Buck Showalter, pitching coach Dave Wallace, bullpen coach Dom Chiti and special instructor Ramon Martinez.
Chris Tillman and Kevin Gausman also threw bullpen sessions this morning.
Dylan Bundy and Hunter Harvey are listed among the relievers for today’s game against the Twins in Fort Myers. Miguel Gonzalez is making his third start.
