SARASOTA, Fla. – Renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews examined Matt Wieters’ MRI and concurred with team physicians who said there were no signs of structural damage.
More good news for the Orioles, who held obvious concerns about Wieters after he exited Saturday’s game with right wrist soreness.

Left-hander Brian Matusz could get into a game this weekend after being sidelined with a strained muscle in his lower back. He hasn’t pitched since making his only appearance on March 2.
Manager Buck Showalter said Jimmy Paredes (wrist) is “very close” to performing baseball activities.
“They’ve just got the last little soreness to get out of there and he’ll be back in the mix shortly,” Showalter said after conferring with head athletic trainer Richie Bancells.
Closer Zach Britton is pitching two innings today in a Single-A game at Twin Lakes Park. Showalter wants to stretch him out.
It has nothing to do with the rotation. I’ll stomp on that rumor right away.
Jeff Beliveau is pitching live batting practice again today.
More roster cuts are coming, Showalter said, but he needs the extra players for Thursday’s split-squad games.
“We’ve got two or three that will happen shortly, but not until we see how we are pitching-wise,” Showalter said. “We’ve got to make sure we’re covered.”
Former Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts is watching batting practice today. He’s in the MASN booth for Sunday’s game against the Rays. He also said he’s slated to do a regular season game in May.
