When the Orioles take the field for tonight’s game at Ed Smith Stadium against the Twins, they’ll look a little different.
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, the Orioles will host “Go Green” Day sponsored by Waste Pro. O’s players and coaches will wear specially designed white jerseys with green Orioles script lettering and a shamrock on the right sleeve. A green cap will top off the ensemble.
The caps and jerseys will be autographed, authenticated and auctioned online at www.orioles/spring to benefit the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. Fans may bid on the auction beginning tonight at 7:05 p.m. through Thursday, March 23 at 10 p.m.
Last year, the St. Patrick’s Day uniform auction raised nearly $8,000 for the Selby Gardens, a world-renowned botanical garden and leader in environmental research located on Sarasota Bay.
The Orioles will present their 2016 donation prior to the final home game of the Grapefruit League season on March 31.
Ed Smith Stadium is one fo the most environmentally friendly ballparks in the nation, using recycling, reclaimed water for toilets and irrigation, and solar panels and roofing materials that conserve energy. The Orioles are a partner in Sarasota County’s “Green Business Partnership” program.
