SARASOTA, Fla. – The Orioles will make at least two cuts on Friday as they continue to whittle down their spring roster.

The Orioles are 4-12-3 heading into Friday night’s game in Tampa.
Mike Wright tossed five scoreless innings, the first Orioles starter to get past the fourth.
“He was good, huh?” said manager Buck Showalter. “Pitching in a normal condition game and attacking the zone. He was good.
“I thought Caleb (Joseph) did a real nice job slowing him down a little bit.”
The recent performances of Wright and Tyler Wilson, close friends on the team, has Showalter feeling good about the pitching depth.
“I’ve felt like we had the potential to come out of here feeling that way and they kind of reaffirmed that,” Showalter said. “I think (Odrisamer) Despaigne’s last two outings (were good). We’re going to try to stretch him out tomorrow I think and we did it with (Vance) Worley today. Got him to almost 70.
“We had four on the board, but Mike’s pitch count was so good we had the opportunity to get him to five, so that was good. I like that. We need to get a couple other guys going a little bit.
The Orioles seem to be playing a crisper brand of baseball.
“As we get closer to the bell, there’s a time you get engaged in the preparation and then you get engaged in the competition,” Showalter said. “They get tired of all the preparation.”
