SARASOTA, Fla. – Reliever Chaz Roe will return to camp on Saturday following the birth of his daughter.
Roe is trying to occupy one of the open spots in the bullpen. He hasn’t allowed a run in his last six appearances over 6 2/3 innings. However, he’s surrendered a hit in five of them and issued a walk in the other game.

The Orioles could make more roster cuts following today’s game. Manager Buck Showalter wasn’t able to meet with executive vice president Dan Duquette before batting practice.
“He had a full plate this morning,” Showalter said.
Showalter indicated again that Pedro Alvarez will play third base before the Orioles break camp on March 31. He’s starting at first base today.
Alvarez received more at-bats yesterday at Twin Lakes Park.
“Pedro’s had really good at-bats down here against left-handed pitching,” Showalter said. “It’s been fun to watch.”
Alvarez is batting second again today. He could occupy that spot on opening day, but Showalter isn’t ready to show his hand.
“I’ve got one I put out there yesterday if we were starting today, but we don’t have to start today,” Showalter said.
“So far, so good. I don’t want to do anything to jinx our health. I’d have signed up for it in blood coming into camp. I’ve got an idea, but one step at a time.”
The Orioles have a “semi-plan” for catcher Matt Wieters, according to Showalter. Wieters felt good after serving yesterday as the designated hitter. He hasn’t caught in a game since lasting one inning on March 12 and leaving with a sore right elbow.
Showalter and bench coach Buck Showalter sat down with Wieters in the dugout during batting practice to discuss the various options.
The Orioles brought pitchers Terry Doyle, Stefan Crichton and Richard Rodriguez and infielder Garabez Rosa from minor league camp.
