Kevin Gausman is making his second start after allowing one run in five innings against the Rays at Tropicana Field. He allowed three hits and struck out seven.
Gausman has faced the White Sox twice in relief during his career, allowing one hit and striking out three in two innings. Austin Jackson is 2-for-5 with two doubles against him. Melky Cabrera also is 2-for-5.
Chicago right-hander Mat Latos is 4-0 with a 0.74 ERA in four starts this season, his first with the White Sox after signing a $3 million contract in February. He’s allowed two runs and 13 hits in 24 1/3 innings.
Latos has made one career start against the Orioles, allowing five runs and 10 hits in five innings on Sept. 2, 2014 at Camden Yards while pitching for the Reds. Jonathan Schoop homered off him.
Alvarez is 8-for-29 with two home runs against Latos.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Orioles and Cubs are tied for the major league lead with nine first-pitch home runs. The Orioles lead the majors with a .481 average in one-pitch at-bats.
The Orioles are 23-1 in Darren O’Day’s last 24 appearances, including 10-0 this season.
