Orioles closer Zach Britton sprained his left ankle tonight while trying to field a bunt single by White Sox leadoff hitter Adam Eaton.
Britton limped off the field with two outs and the score tied in the top of the ninth inning. Vance Worley gave up an RBI single to Jose Abreu, and the Orioles lost 8-7 at Camden Yards.
The club announced afterward that Britton sprained the ankle. For now, it’s nothing more serious than a day-to-day situation.

“Left ankle, but I don’t know. We’ll see how it is tomorrow,” said manager Buck Showalter.
“Richie (Bancells) and them were looking at the replay and talking. He jammed it more than rolled it. I’m sure you all saw the replay, too. The proverbial day-to-day. We’ll see what tomorrow brings. Zach’s always been a pretty quick healer, so we’ll see.”
The wet field was a hazard. The game was played in a light rain as the temperature dropped, typical weather for the first month of the season.
“We’ve been playing in this slop for a while. But both teams, that’s one of the challenges,” Showalter said.
“Zach has come so far as a defender. When he first started, the first year or two, it was a challenge for him and he worked so hard on it to become a really quality defender. Almost made a great play tonight.”
