MINNEAPOLIS – Right-hander Scott McGough has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles made the announcement this afternoon.

The Orioles designated McGough for assignment on Saturday to create a spot for infielder Paul Janish on the 40-man roster.

McGough allowed eight runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings with the Tides over six relief appearances. He also walked three batters and struck out six.

The Orioles hit six home runs yesterday that accounted for all of their scoring in an 11-3 win over the Athletics at Camden Yards. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it marked the third time in Orioles history that they scored at least 10 runs in a game via only home runs. It also happened in a 12-8 win over the Mariners in 1996 and a 12-2 win over the Blue Jays in 2012.

The only other team to do it this season is the Mets in an 11-1 win over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Rain continues to fall in Minneapolis as the Orioles prepare for a three-game series against the Twins at Target Field. It’s supposed to taper off later in the evening, but the threat of it remains.

On this date in 1961, first baseman Jim Gentile hit grand slams in the first and second innings a Metropolitan Stadium in a 13-5 win over the Twins. Gentile became only the third player in major league history to hit two grand slams in a game and the first to do it in consecutive innings.

Gentile also had a sacrifice fly and set the club record with nine RBIs, later tied by Eddie Murray on Aug. 26, 1985.
