Ubaldo Jimenez has left the Orioles to be with his wife, who is eight months pregnant. He could go on paternity leave if the baby arrives early.

Manager Buck Showalter already has been in contact with Triple-A Norfolk manager Ron Johnson and Double-A Bowie manager Gary Kendall regarding candidates for a long relief role in Jimenez’s absence.

Outfielder Hyun Soo Kim will run again today and is expected to play for Bowie on Sunday and Monday before coming off the disabled list on Tuesday, the first day that he’s eligible. It depends, of course, on whether he avoids a setback with his right hamstring.

wieters-happy-walk-off-white-sidebar.jpgCatcher Matt Wieters’ right foot is feeling much better and the Orioles are hoping he can catch by Monday, which would give Caleb Joseph six consecutive starts, including Sunday’s day game after a night game.

“Caleb is as fresh as ever,” Showalter said. “I think he relishes the chance to make a contribution to the team.”

Darren O’Day could be activated Sunday or Monday, or the Orioles could give him one more game in the minors. Those are the three choices.

“We’re waiting for a few other things to fall,” Showalter said.

T.J. McFarland (knee) is throwing from 90-120 feet and is close to getting back on a mound.

“I know he’s champing at the bit to get out there,” Showalter said.

Outfielder Joey Rickard, on the disabled list with torn ligament in his right thumb, will stay in Baltimore but not travel with the team.

The Orioles are starting Yovani Gallardo, Chris Tillman and Dylan Bundy in the three-game series against the Rockies that starts on Monday. Colorado is starting Jorge De La Rosa, Chad Bettis and Jon Gray.
