The Orioles today announced that they have selected the contract of infielder Trey Mancini from Triple-A Norfolk, reinstated right-hander Darren O’Day from the 15-day disabled list, and placed infielder/outfielder Steve Pearce on the 60-day disabled list with a right flexor mass strain.
Mancini, 24, batted .282/.357/.458 (154-for-546) with 26 doubles, five triples, 20 home runs, and 68 RBI over 142 games between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk this season. Mancini, 24, batted .282/.357/.458 (154-for-546) with 26 doubles, five triples, 20 home runs, and 68 RBI over 142 games between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk this season. He was twice named an Orioles Minor League Player of the Month (April and June) and his first appearance with the Orioles will be his Major League debut. The Orioles 2015 Brooks Robinson Minor League Player of the Year hit .306/.357/.472 with 119 doubles, 16 triples, 54 home runs, and 275 RBI over 483 career minor league games. He will wear No. 67.
O’Day, 33, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on August 13 (retroactive to August 12) with a right shoulder rotator cuff strain. Over 30 games with the Orioles this season, O’Day has gone 3-1 with three saves, a 3.95 ERA (12 ER/27.1 IP), and 33 strikeouts. A 2015 American League All-Star, he has pitched to a 34-14 record with 17 saves, a 2.41 ERA (126 ER/471.0 IP), and 464 strikeouts in 489 career Major League games.
Pearce, 33, hit .288/.374/.492 (76-for-264) with 13 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs, and 35 RBI over 85 games between the Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays. Pearce was acquired from the Rays in exchange for minor league catcher Jonah Heim on August 1.
