Orioles first baseman Chris Davis is counted among the Orioles representatives this morning attending the annual holiday party for kids at Dave & Busters at the Arundel Mills Mall, and that’s just a part of the giving.

The Orioles and OriolesREACH are hosting 80 outpatients from the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital. Davis and wife Jill will use the setting to announce that they’re serving as ambassadors for UMCH, helping to raise awareness for childhood illnesses and the hospital’s role as a leader in patient care, pediatric disease research, and teaching future generations of health care providers.

According to an Orioles press release, the Davis family will visit with pediatric patients at UMCH, provide autographed memorabilia to include in silent auctions benefiting the hospital’s philanthropy efforts and assist with several fundraising events.

Everyone at UMCH has inspired our family – from the patients and families who show such courage in the face of overwhelming challenges to the medical professionals and caregivers who dedicate their careers to saving and improving children’s lives.”

The Davises will be busy this week. They’re also donating and distributing nearly two dozen MamaRoos to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UMCH, completing an ongoing project to secure one for each room. MamaRoos are infant seats that mimic the rocking movement parents make while comforting their baby.

They also will donate presents to the hospital’s annual Snow Pile event, which enables families of hospitalized children to “shop” without having to venture out to stores.

Orioles reliever Darren O’Day, catcher Caleb Joseph and pitcher Tyler Wilson also are scheduled to appear at today’s 38th annual OriolesREACH Holiday Party. They’ll join former Orioles Scott McGregor, Al Bumbry and Larry Bigbie.

The group will help serve lunch, distribute holiday gifts and play games with the children.

The Orioles re-signed Davis last winter to the largest contract in franchise history, with $161 million guaranteed over seven seasons. He receives $17 million per season over the life of the deal, plus $3.5 million a year from 2023-2032 and $1.4 million from 2033-2037.

Hindered by a hand injury for most of the 2016 season, Davis batted .221/.332/.459 with 21 doubles, 38 home runs and 84 RBIs in 157 games. He led the majors with 219 strikeouts.

Davis was a finalist for a Gold Glove in the American League.
