The Orioles went 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position and are just 2 for 21 (.095) with RISP over the last three games when they have scored a total of six runs.
Tonight’s pitchng matchup of Kevin Millwood (0-4, 3.69) and Zach Greinke (1-4, 2.73) is a matchup of two of the AL pitchers getting the fewest run support in the league per nine innings. Millwood ranks first at 2.18 and Greinke is fifth at 3.25. Greinke went 16-8, 2.16 last year to win the AL Cy Young Award.
In the minors, the Orioles have promoted reliever Brandon Cooney from Frederick to Bowie and added Brett Bordes from Aberdeen.
Cooney is having a solid year for the Keys and I wrote this story about him recently.
Cooney is now 2-0, 0.55 on the year with six saves for Frederick. Over 16 1/3, he has allowed 12 hits and just one earned run with an amazing 6.25 ratio of ground outs to flyball outs.
Coming soon in this space: An in-depth, two-part interview with Billy Rowell of the Frederick Keys, the O’s first-round pick in 2006.
