Corey Patterson likely cost the O’s a run in the sixth inning at Washington. A run that would have cut the Nats lead in the game to 3-2.
Patterson walked and stolen second. When Nick Markakis hit a fly ball to deep center, Patterson strayed off the bag at second and did not tag up. He would have made third easily.
The next hitter, Miguel Tejada, hit a routine grounder to short. All teams makes mistakes, physical and mental, but the ones the Orioles make seem to stand out with their record at 14-30. Patterson, who in fairness has been solid in the leadoff role, cost the O’s with a big mental mistake today at Nats Park.
