I was crafting another entry detailing the Orioles’ ninth inning rally and how they fell short against Nats closer Matt Capps. I was expressing disappointment in Matt Wieters’ at-bat with runners on second and third and one out, how a weak ground ball to the right side felt empty despite scoring a run.
Then Julio Lugo made me hit the delete button.
Lugo’s two-out single off Capps tied the game, 3-3, and brought us to the bottom of the ninth.

Lugo was 0-for-3 and hadn’t gotten the ball out of the infield. Now he’s batting .213 with two RBIs.
The dugout exploded as Lugo’s line drive fell in right field. Players jumped to the top step to high-five Adam Jones, who doubled down the right field line with one out after Luke Scott’s infield hit. They gave the “spotlight” gesture to Lugo, who smacked his hands together after rounding first.
Kevin Millwood gets a no-decision. Sure beats a loss, says Captain Obvious.
Let’s see if Alfredo Simon can carry this game into extra innings after Will Ohman and Matt Albers did their jobs coming out of the bullpen.
Meanwhile, Double-A Bowie’s Pedro Florimon hit his first home run today. It was a grand slam.
I’ll shut up now.
