Tonight’s Nationals versus Phillies game has been postponed. The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Sunday. The first game Sunday is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. The second game schedule for 7:05 p.m.
Manager Dusty Baker said Tanner Roark will start Saturday night’s game.
The Nationals have now not played a game since Wednesday night against the Orioles. Baker said it reminded him of the time off the club gets during the All-Star break.
“You just kind of sit around and wait on the weather,” Baker said. “There’s nothing you can do about it. But you hate to just turn it on, turn it off, turn it on, turn it off. In your mind, what it does it went from (A.J.) Cole pitching yesterday to Tanner (Roark) pitching today. If not, Tanner will pitch tomorrow.”
The Nationals confirmed that Roark will start Saturday night. Left-hander Gio Gonzalez will start the first game Sunday. Right-hander Max Scherzer is scheduled to start the second game of the day-night Mother’s Day doubleheader.
The Phillies will push Nick Pivetta back to Saturday night. Jeremy Hellickson will start game one Sunday and Vince Velasquez goes in game two.
