What’s going on with Brian Matusz?
Matusz has fallen behind, 4-0, in the first inning, the last three runs scoring on Adam Rosales’ homer. Rosales crushed a 92 mph fastball that hung over the plate and begged to be hit.
The inning finally ended when shortstop Cesar Izturis made a diving stop and throw to rob Jake Fox. Matusz retreated to the dugout after allowing three hits, walking one and throwing 26 pitches. His ERA’s grown to 5.86.

This one hasn’t started much better.
Matusz gave up six runs and nine hits in 3 2/3 innings in Minnesota before blanking the Indians over seven innings on May 15. Then came the beating in Texas and tonight’s painful first inning.
Update: Matusz allowed another run in the second inning. Rajai Davis singled with two outs, stole second, took third on catcher Matt Wieters’ throwing error and scored on Daric Barton’s ground-ball single into left.
Oakland 5, Orioles 0.
Matusz has thrown 45 pitches.
