We had the mother of all mound conferences in the top of the second inning after Oakland’s Jack Cust grounded out.
The umpires stopped play and met with Brad Bergesen, apparently to point out that his foot hadn’t made contact with the rubber. Bergesen was standing to the left of it, which A’s first base coach Todd Steverson must have noticed.
It wasn’t a five-man conference. The entire Orioles infield joined them, including catcher Matt Wieters. I was waiting for the bullpen to empty.

I didn’t know if they were going for the world record for most people on one mound.
Manager Dave Trembley came out of the dugout for an explanation, which further delayed the game. Once it resumed, Bergesen walked Kevin Kouzmanoff and served up a two-run homer to Gabe Gross.
At least Bergesen’s foot was on the rubber.
Gross, as I pointed out this morning, is the only Oakland player who has faced Bergesen. He’s now 2-for-4.
Gross jumped on an 89 mph fastball and ended a 52-game homerless streak.
Maybe he’d like to go to the mound and talk about it.
