I just spoke on the phone with Rowell, who is with the Keys in Lynchburg. He said he’s a little banged up right now and the Orioles are taking him off the roster for a couple of days.
He’s dealing with a sore hamstring, strained thumb and an ankle strain. He could and would have continued to play through the injuries.
“This is the club’s decision. They told me it would be just for a few days and this is no big deal,” Rowell said. He remains with the Keys team in Lynchburg, but is now off the roster. He may be re-instated on Monday when the Keys return home.
Rowell is batting .256-4-22 in 39 games this year and has just one hit over his last 18 at bats. He has struck out 46 times in 133 at bats with a .757 OPS.
He got off to a decent start and was batting .309 as recently as May 11.
The Keys, who are 28-19 on the year, are leading their division by seven games and play at Lynchburg tonight.
