The Orioles didn’t score a run for Kevin Millwood.

They officially recalled Chris Tillman from Triple-A Norfolk to make tomorrow’s start in Toronto.

They optioned reliever Cla Meredith to Norfolk to make room for Tillman on the 25-man roster.

Pretty slow night.

Meredith took the news about like you’d expect. He wasn’t happy and mentioned his uneven use and how he only works here, but I outlined earlier today why the Orioles needed to make a decision on him.

Meredith took the news about like you’d expect. He wasn’t happy and mentioned his uneven use and how he only works here, but I outlined earlier today why the Orioles needed to make a decision on him.

He’s been placed in a couple of difficult spots the past week. No argument here. But it’s all about results, and he’s not delivering.

Meredith had an option remaining. The Orioles used it. No argument there, either.

He’s a sidearm pitcher who’s supposed to induce ground balls. We saw plenty of them in spring training. We haven’t seen enough of them since the season began.

One more observation before bed: The Adam Jones “story” is one of the biggest non-stories in recent memory.

Jones didn’t get thrown into jail and he wasn’t eating bugs off a wall. He was detained by customs in Canada because he shares the same name as an NFL low-life. It’s a quirky note at best. And we wouldn’t be talking about it if he hadn’t “tweeted” it (ugh).

It was an annoying case of mistaken identity and an annoying delay in his arrival to the team hotel, but that’s it. My guess is other major league players will deal with a similar inconvenience, though not because they’re mistaken for somebody who’s made it rain in a strip joint.

It’s the Twitter age, and a young guy with emotions bubbling over decided to vent in 140 characters or less. I’m sure he understands now why that might not be a good idea.

Down on the farm, Double-A Bowie pitcher Chorye Spoone gave up one run and three hits in seven innings tonight, with a season-high seven strikeouts. It’s his longest outing since he tossed a complete game in the final game of the 2007 Carolina League Championship Series.

Joel Guzman went 2-for-4 with five RBIs.

Triple-A Norfolk left-hander Troy Patton blanked Pawtucket three hits over seven innings to lower his ERA to 5.70. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out four.

Dennis Sarfate picked up his second save with two scoreless innings, striking out three. Nolan Reimold, serving as the DH, went 1-for-4. Brandon Snyder was 3-for-4, Josh Bell went 2-for-3, and Jeff Salazar hit his seventh home run.
