Single-A Frederick’s Cristian Alvarado has been named the Carolina League’s Pitcher of the Week after tossing a seven-inning complete-game shutout in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Two of his four strikeouts came against the Nationals’ Trea Turner and Jayson Werth, who were rehabbing with Potomac.

Single-A Delmarva’s Jake Ring has been named to the South Atlantic League Postseason All-Star Team as a utility outfielder. Ring, 22, is batting .274 with a league-leading 36 doubles, 14 home runs, 65 RBIs and 17 stolen bases.

Pitchers Keegan Akin, Andrew Faulkner and Tanner Scott, and infielders Ryan Mountcastle and Steve Wilkerson will play for the Salt River Rafters in the Arizona Fall League. The Orioles also have an open spot for a pitcher and outfielder.

Akin, last year’s second-round pick, has been on the minor league disabled list at Single-A Frederick with a pulled oblique.
