Double-A Bowie’s Garabez Rosa, 27, has been named the Eastern League’s Most Valuable Player.
Rosa led the league in average (.310), hits (162) and RBIs (91). He was second in total bases (232) and tied for second in runs scored (75). He played six different positions, including all three outfield spots.
A native of the Dominican Republic, Rosa is the franchise’s all-time leader in games (590), hits (650), RBIs (306), runs scored (273) and doubles (107).
Rosa is the third player in Baysox history to be named Eastern League MVP, following Calvin Pickering (1998) and Lou Montanez (2008).
On this date in 1995, Cal Ripken Jr. played in his 2,131st consecutive game to break Lou Gehrig’s record. Exactly one year later, Eddie Murray hit his 500th career home run.
