Jones’ glove hand slammed into the ground and it’s clearly bothering him. He keeps removing the glove and making a fist. At one point, he was grabbing his pant leg as if testing the strength in his hand.

Rodriguez advanced to third base on Robinson Cano’s single to left, but Brian Matusz retired the next three batters – including Curtis Granderson, who homered off him earlier – without letting the tie-breaking run cross the plate. Very impressive display by the rookie.

Granderson took a called third strike, on a slider, to strand Rodriguez and Cano.

Update: Jones stayed in the game and struck out with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the seventh. Jones should have been ahead in the count, 2-1, but fell behind 1-2 because of a horrible strike call on a pitch that was clearly low. Julio Lugo bounced into a force, and the Orioles matched the Yankees in squandered opportunities.
