Millwood is looking for his first win today, but the Orioles will have to rally from a 2-0 deficit. He issued a leadoff walk in the first, gave up a single, committed a balk that allowed Derek Jeter to score after a stolen base, and surrendered Robinson Cano’s RBI double.

Other than that, it was a pretty quiet inning.

Other than that, it was a pretty quiet inning.

Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk’s Brandon Erbe was charged with five runs (four earned) and eight hits today in five-plus innings against Rochester. He faced four batters in the sixth without recording an out.

Erbe, also winless on the year, walked two and struck out seven. He threw 99 pitches, 68 for strikes.

Two of those runs scored after he left the game. Kam Mickolio surrendered hits to the first three batters he faced and left after being charged with two runs of his own in one-third of an inning.

Mickolio’s ERA has swelled to 10.43.

It seems like forever ago that manager Dave Trembley was raving about him in spring training and talking about the right-hander’s “end of game” stuff.

Speaking of Trembley, I’ve been placing and fielding calls about him all day. So much fun.

It’s important to note that president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail didn’t accompany the team on this road trip. He didn’t board a train for New York this morning. He’s not firing Trembley over the phone.

Trembley could meet with MacPhail late tonight or tomorrow morning and we’ll brace for the announcement – though I’ve been braced for so long, I’m starting to cramp up.

Whatever I’m feeling, it’s nothing close to what Trembley has gone through. Enough already.
