Interim manager Juan Samuel said everything pitching-wise should “stay the same” if Jeremy Guthrie doesn’t need extra time to recover.
We’re still trying to determine if and when Jake Arrieta will have his contract purchased from Triple-A Norfolk.
The Orioles are open to using Arrieta in the rotation or the bullpen, which adds to the speculation. Maybe he replaces Brad Bergesen in the rotation. Alfredo Simon will be the closer once he returns, with Will Ohman being used in his previous set-up role. The reports on Simon say he’s doing “everything” in Sarasota as he recovers from a strained hamstring, but the club isn’t sure whether he’ll go on an injury rehab assignment before being activated. He’s getting close.
Samuel prefers batting Miguel Tejada second, though it isn’t a permanent spot. He noted that Tejada had some success there in Houston and will see how it goes.
Scouts from the Marlins, Braves and Cubs have been here this weekend. Might not mean much, but it’s always worth noting.
