Near the end of Brian Roberts’ call-in segment on The Scott Garceau Show, he casually mentioned that he’ll receive another “injection” in his lower back tomorrow in St. Petersburg, which I assume is an epidural, to calm the inflammation.
That will be No. 3 by my count, though I might have lost track.
Roberts concluded the interview by saying that he hoped to get in some games “toward the end of the year.”

Alex Rodriguez left tonight’s game without batting. Ramiro Pena pinch-hit for him leading off the second inning.
Rodriguez has been dealing with a groin injury.
Jake Arrieta has caught a break by having Pena serve as the Yankees’ cleanup hitter, but a double by Robinson Cano and two-out triple by Curtis Granderson produced the Yankees first run.
Arrieta struck out Jorge Posada on a changeup before Granderson batted.
Double-A Binghamton swept Bowie in a doubleheader today. Brandon Waring hit his eighth home run in Game 1, and went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in Game 2.
Update: The Yankees scored twice in the third inning to take a 3-2 lead. Walking the No. 9 hitter, Chad Moeller, probably wasn’t a good idea. Derek Jeter doubled, took third on the late throw home and scored on Nick Swisher’s sacrifice fly. Arrieta has thrown 52 pitches.
