Manny Machado is out of the Orioles lineup tonight due to an illness that’s sweeping through the clubhouse.
Danny Valencia didn’t play yesterday because he was sick. Machado is just the latest player to come down with it.
“This is a tough one,” said manager Buck Showalter, noting how the illness seems to “linger.”

Did today provide Showalter with the chance to think about what it’s like to not write Machado’s name in the lineup?
“I don’t need today to think about that,” he replied.
Closer Zach Britton is coming off the disabled list later today. No corresponding move is ready to be announced, but it’s expected to involve the bullpen. Perhaps someone is headed to the disabled list.
The move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster figures to involve moving an injured player to the 60-day disabled list.
Showalter would prefer to withhold Britton from any save situations until a little later, but he might not have the luxury.
Showalter eventually wants to have an eight-man ‘pen, but it won’t happen tonight.
Chris Tillman had three reps today of 15 pitches each in an extended spring training game and is expected to report next week to short-season Single-A Aberdeen.
Third baseman Tim Beckham is now likely to come off the disabled list when eligible on June 23.
Gabriel Ynoa is close to going on a rehab assignment.
