Renato Núñez continues to play third base. He’s 2-for-11 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored since the Orioles selected his contract from Triple-A Norfolk.
Jonathan Schoop is the fourth second baseman to have at least 600 hits, 300 runs and 100 home runs before turning 27, according to STATS. The others are Hall of Famers Rogers Hornsby, Joe Gordon and Bobby Doerr.
Schoop is batting .352 (25-for-71) in 18 games this month and his 25 hits are the second-most in the American League and tied for third-most in baseball.
Catcher Caleb Joseph has reached base in eight straight games and nine of 11 this month. He’s hitting .324 (11-for-34) with four doubles, one home run, five RBIs and five runs scored.
Kevin Gausman didn’t record an out in the sixth inning in his last two starts, allowing a combined eight runs and 17 hits. He faced the Red Sox on May 17 at Fenway Park and surrendered six runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts homered off him.
Gausman is 4-7 with a 4.25 ERA and 1.217 WHIP in 19 career games (14 starts) against the Red Sox. Mookie Betts is 15-for-32 (.469) with a double and three home runs. Martinez is 5-for-11 with a home run. Jackie Bradley Jr. is 2-for-19 (.105) with a home run and seven strikeouts.
Rick Porcello registered quality starts in his first two outings this month before lasting only two innings in Toronto on July 13 and allowing eight runs and seven hits with four walks. He faced the Orioles on May 19 and allowed three runs in six innings and struck out nine batters.
Porcello is 5-11 with a 4.86 ERA and 1.320 WHIP in 19 career starts against the Orioles and 2-5 with a 4.85 ERA and 1.275 WHIP in nine starts at Camden Yards. Mark Trumbo is 11-for-37 (.297) with two doubles and four home runs. Schoop is 7-for-22 (.318).
Chris Tillman is expected to decline the Orioles’ offer to stay in the organization and pitch at Norfolk. He’s trying to catch on with another major league team.
