Starter Kevin Gausman is on the verge of being traded to the Braves, a source has confirmed. The non-waiver trade deadline arrives at 4 p.m.
No word yet on the return, but an agreement is in place the medicals are being reviewed.
The Orioles made Gausman the fourth overall pick in the 2012 draft out of LSU and he compiled a 39-51 record with a 4.22 ERA and 1.350 WHIP in 150 games (127 starts). He’s 5-8 this season with a 4.43…

The Pirates were pursuing Gausman before dropping out earlier today. The Rockies and Brewers were among the other teams involved in talks. The Yankees showed interest earlier in the month.

Gausman can become a free agent following the 2020 season. Meanwhile, he’s about to join reliever Brad Brach, who was traded to the Braves Sunday afternoon for international bonus slot money.

The Braves also have former Orioles Nick Markakis and Ryan Flaherty on the roster to further ease Gausman’s transition to a new team. And former pitching coach Dave Wallace and bullpen coach Dom Chiti are members of the front office.

Second baseman Jonathan Schoop is on tonight’s lineup card as the Orioles open a two-game series against the Yankees. He’s also been the subject of heavy trade talks today and could be moved by 4 p.m.

Adam Jones is in center field after declining to waive his 10-5 rights and accept a trade.

Jones is 11-for-30 (.367) with two doubles and three home runs against Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka. Schoop is 9-for-31 (.290) with three doubles and three home runs. Joey Rickard has a double and home run among his five at-bats.

Mark Trumbo is 2-for-17 (.118) with 11 strikeouts.

Tanaka is 8-2 with a 4.09 ERA and 1.061 WHIP in 16 starts. In three starts against the Orioles, he’s allowed 10 runs and 20 hits and surrendered five home runs over 16 innings.
