Jonathan Villar is batting leadoff again tonight after collecting two hits in his Orioles debut.

Tim Beckham is again slotted second in the order. Renato Núñez is at third base, Jace Peterson is in right field and Caleb Joseph is catching.

Hess-Throws-Black-Sidebar.jpgDavid Hess is back in the rotation as Kevin Gausman’s replacement and makes his first start since June 29. He pitched twice in relief last month, allowing two runs in two innings on July 4 in Philadelphia and tossing a scoreless inning July 28 against the Rays at Camden Yards.

Hess has never faced the Rangers or anyone on their current roster.

The Rangers also are sending a rookie to the mound, right-hander Ariel Jurado, who’s making his third major league start and appearance. He’s allowed five runs and eight hits in 10 2/3 innings.

Jurado, 22, was 5-3 with a 3.28 ERA and 1.220 WHIP in 16 starts with Triple-A Round Rock. He averaged only 5.1 strikeouts per nine innings.

The Orioles haven’t announced a roster move involving reliever Jhan Mariñez, who’s a candidate to go on the 10-day disabled list with a hamstring injury.

Mariñez left last night’s game after attempting to warm up for the bottom of the fifth inning. Joseph received a pitch, looked into the Orioles’ dugout and motioned that Mariñez appeared to have sustained a leg or groin injury.

It turned out to be the hamstring.

Mariñez has allowed five earned runs (six total) and nine hits with nine walks in eight innings. His ERA has climbed to 5.62 and he may have been headed back down to Norfolk if not for the injury.

The Orioles have signed 16-year-old Dominican Republic shortstop Moises Ramirez, according to Baseball America’s Ben Badler, who shot this video:
