According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the San Diego Padres entered June with the best record in the NL (31-20) for the first time in franchise history.
Their 38-28 record is the third-best in franchise history. The Padres were 40-25 in 1998 and 39-26 in 1984.
The Orioles aren’t catching them at the right time.

Before last night, Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez ranked among the top National League left-handed batters when facing left-handed pitching in batting average (third at .318), hits (first with 28), home runs (tied for fifth with three) and on-base percentage (second at .417).
He’ll be Brian Matusz’s problem tomorrow night.
Matusz will enjoy a homecoming of sorts, since he attended the University of San Diego.
Just don’t get his school confused with San Diego State. They’re not the same.
Matusz has lost seven straight decisions, his last win coming April 18 at Oakland.
Isn’t that the victory I guaranteed? Has it been that long?
The Orioles will face Wade LeBlanc, who also played “Joey” on Friends.
Actually, LeBlanc is 4-4 with a 3.05 ERA and has allowed one run in his last two starts covering 13 innings. He’s surrendered three runs in his last 18 1/3 innings.
The Orioles won’t be catching him at the right time.
You’ll notice something different about Camden Yards on Tuesday. Seven retired number discs will be permanently affixed to the upper deck left field corner, honoring six former Orioles and Jackie Robinson.
The Orioles’ numbers will be displayed in the order that they were retired by the club.
Can you name the Orioles and their numbers?
