The Orioles made a roster move today to bring up a fresh bullpen arm, and it included the decision to cut ties with Mike Wright.
Wright has been designated for assignment prior to this afternoon’s series finale against the Twins at Camden Yards. The Orioles selected Gabriel Ynoa’s contract from Triple-A Norfolk and he’ll be in uniform today.

The Orioles made a roster move today to bring up a fresh bullpen arm, and it included the decision to cut ties with Mike Wright.
Wright has been designated for assignment prior to this afternoon’s series finale against the Twins at Camden Yards. The Orioles selected Gabriel Ynoa‘s contract from Triple-A Norfolk and he’ll be in uniform today.
Wright worked 3 1/3 innings last night, surrendering three-run homers to C.J. Cron and former Oriole Jonathan Schoop. Wright was charged with four runs and five hits in 3 1/3 innings to raise his ERA to 9.45 and his WHIP to 2.025 in 10 appearances covering 13 1/3 innings.
The Orioles could attempt to trade Wright or pass him through waivers. He’s been in the organization since they selected him in the third round of the 2011 draft out of East Carolina University.
Wright has gone 10-12 with a 5.95 ERA and 1.545 WHIP in 101 games, including 23 starts, since breaking into the majors in 2015. He competed for a spot in the rotation in spring training, registering a 3.32 ERA and 1.431 WHIP in 21 2/3 innings. Wright made six starts among seven appearances and seemed more confident, based on new data provided for him. But he’s been scored upon in five of his 10 relief outings and surrendered five home runs.
Media allowed entrance into the clubhouse this morning noticed Wright cleaning out his locker, and the club announced the move.
Ynoa came off the 40-man roster in the offseason and signed a minor league deal. He didn’t pitch in the majors last season due to injuries and had a 4.15 ERA and 1.356 WHIP in nine games (four starts) in 2017.
In three starts with Norfolk this season, Ynoa has gone 1-0 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 17 innings. He’s allowed nine runs and 13 hits with six walks and 13 strikeouts.
Ynoa hasn’t pitched since Tuesday. He can provide length out of the bullpen for a club that played a doubleheader yesterday.
Orioles relievers lead the majors with 98 2/3 innings pitched.
Ynoa will wear No. 64.
