Today could mark Stewart’s first game in the majors since Sept. 30, though the Tigers are starting left-hander Matthew Boyd. He’ll be in the lineup or part of a three-man bench.
Stewart went 10-for-40 (.250) with three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBIs in 17 games after joining the Orioles expanded roster, making his major league debut on Sept. 12.
The Orioles made Stewart the 25th overall pick in the 2015 draft out of Florida State University.
They were able to fit him onto the 25-man roster today with first baseman Chris Davis going on the 10-day injured list with left hip inflammation. Trey Mancini can play first base and Stewart can get some starts in right field.
Stewart is the 18th player this season to appear on the active rosters of both the Orioles and Tides. He’s been assigned uniform No. 24.
