Rays two-way player Brendan McKay, the fourth overall pick in 2017, is making his third major league start in the opener. He’s allowed three runs and seven hits in 11 innings, with one walk and six strikeouts.
The Rays activated first baseman Ji-Man Choi from the injured list. Reliever Ian Gibaut was optioned to Triple-A Durham.
Rio Ruiz is on the bench for the first game while the Rays start a left-hander. Ruiz hit his second career triple last night, the other being his first major league hit on Sept. 28, 2016.
