The Orioles begin a new month and a 10-game homestand tonight with Asher Wojciechowski making the start against the Blue Jays.

They went 12-12 in July for their first non-losing month since going 17-12 in August 2017.

In two career starts against the Blue Jays, Wojciechowski has allowed seven runs and eight hits in 8 1/3 innings.

Infielder José Rondón isn’t in tonight’s lineup. Hanser Alberto is playing second base, Jonathan Villar is at shortstop and Jace Peterson is at third base.

Anthony Santander is playing left field and Stevie Wilkerson is in center.

The Orioles seem to face a rookie starter every game and it continues tonight with Blue Jays right-hander Trent Thornton, who’s 3-7 with a 5.45 ERA and 1.535 WHIP in 21 games. He’s averaging 4.1 walks and 9.1 strikeouts per nine innings.

Thornton was a fifth-round pick by the Astros in 2015, a pitcher who’s certainly familiar to Orioles executive Mike Elias. He’s faced Elias’ team twice this season, allowing three runs in five innings and tossing six scoreless.

The latter start was the only good one for Thornton last month. In the other three outings, he allowed a combined 16 runs and 19 hits in seven innings.

The Blue Jays just swept the Royals in a three-game series. They’re 43-67 overall and 23-33 on the road.

The Orioles are 5-4 against the Blue Jays this season but lost two of three games on June 11-13 at Camden Yards.
