Left-hander Anthony Kay, the Mets’ first-round draft pick in 2016 who made his major league debut earlier this month, had been listed as Toronto’s starter, but he’s following opener Wilmer Font.
Kay posted a 6.61 ERA and 1.628 WHIP in seven starts with Triple-A Syracuse and a 5.25 ERA and 1.528 WHIP in seven starts with Triple-A Buffalo. He’s made two appearances with the Blue Jays and allowed seven runs and 11 hits with 10 strikeouts in 10 innings.
Kay underwent Tommy John surgery in October 2016. He was chosen to the All-Star Futures Game this year, before the Mets included him in the Marcus Stroman trade.
Font has made 12 starts and 18 appearances with the Blue Jays and posted a 2.81 ERA and 1.063 WHIP with seven walks and 44 strikeouts in 32 innings. He’s surrendered only three home runs.
Font, also acquired from the Mets, made a two-inning start against the Orioles on Aug. 2 and allowed one hit with two strikeouts.
