The Orioles should celebrate the occasion by starting Jake Fox tonight.

I passed along a few tidbits last night about Rangers starter Tommy Hunter. It’s also worth noting that he was a supplemental pick out of the University of Alabama in 2007; he’s listed at 6 foot 3, 280 pounds; he’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in all six outings this year; and he’s 11-4 with a 3.51 ERA in 17 career starts in Arlington.

The Orioles get him tonight.

What could go wrong?

They’ve never faced Hunter, so tonight will be their introduction.

I want Corey Patterson, Felix Pie, Josh Bell and Miguel Tejada in the lineup. I’m just not sure how to do it.

Jeremy Guthrie is coming off his shortest outing of the season – four innings in Boston – and has lost his last six decisions.

Favorable matchup: Vladimir Guerrero is 1-for-17 lifetime against Guthrie.

Not-so-favorable matchup: Michael Young is 6-for-15 with two doubles and a home run lifetime against Guthrie.

Nate Nery has allowed 22 earned runs and 43 hits in four starts covering 19 1/3 innings since being promoted last month from Single-A Frederick to Double-A Bowie.

Frederick right fielder Ronnie Welty extended his hitting streak to 12 games last night and also launched his team-leading 10th home run, his first since May 29. The ball reportedly cleared all three tiers of fencing in right field.

The first 1,000 fans ages three and up who attend Bowie’s 7:05 p.m. game on July 22 against Richmond will receive a Nolan Reimold bobblehead.

It’s light enough that you can move it from left field to first base.

Carlos Delgado will receive the Roberto Clemente Award for Sports Excellence, which is presented to an individual renowned in the world of sports and committed to the advancement of Hispanic Americans.

Did you know that Yankees manager Joe Girardi had contacted Dave Trembley about being part of the AL coaching staff for next week’s All-Star Game?

That plan fell apart, of course, once the Orioles fired Trembley.

I still haven’t heard from Trembley since his dismissal. I wonder if he watches the games from home, or if it’s too uncomfortable.
