With Yolmer Sánchez designated for assignment yesterday, the Orioles are starting Rio Ruiz at second base for this afternoon’s game against the Pirates in Sarasota.
Ruiz has made two appearances at second base in the majors, no starts, and never played the position in the minors.
Anthony Santander is out of the lineup for the fifth consecutive day due to soreness in his oblique area.

Relievers today for the Orioles include Shawn Armstrong, Tanner Scott and César Valdez.
Left-hander Bruce Zimmermann gets the start Monday afternoon in the final exhibition game. Rich Hill starts for the Rays.
Zimmermann has thrown nine scoreless innings with only one hit allowed.
Mitch Keller is starting this afternoon for the Pirates. He’s allowed 15 earned runs (16 total) and 22 hits this spring in 8 1/3 innings.
The Pirates aren’t using a designated hitter today. The Braves didn’t need one last night.
