Trey Mancini has returned to the Orioles lineup this afternoon, batting third as the designated hitter, but Ryan Mountcastle returns to the bench after playing both ends of yesterday’s doubleheader.

Tyler Nevin is the first baseman, DJ Stewart is in left field and Anthony Santander is in right.

Stevie Wilkerson is the second bnaseman.

Left-hander Keegan Akin is making his fifth appearance this season and his first start since Sept. 27 in Toronto, when he allowed four runs (two homers) in three innings. He’s trying today to lower a 6.10 ERA and 1.258 WHIP in 10 1/3 innings.

Akin has replaced Dean Kremer in the rotation. Kremer was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.

Stewart-HR-Swing-Bat-Flip_Gray-Sidebar.jpgThe Orioles are 17-35 and have lost 12 games in a row and 19 of their last 21. They’re trying to avoid their longest losing stretch since dropping 13 in a row from Sept. 17-30, 2009.

The Orioles are 4-for-53 with runners in scoring position in their last six games.

White Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito has a 4.04 ERA and 1.168 WHIP this season in 10 starts and is averaging 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings.

Giolito has made two career starts against the Orioles and allowed 11 earned runs (13 total) and 14 hits in 7 1/3 innings. He lasted only 1 1/3 innings on May 24, 2018 in Chicago, allowing seven runs in six hits while Dylan Bundy went the distance with 14 strikeouts. Mancini and Adam Jones homered in the second.

Mike Baumann and DL Hall are starting for Double-A Bowie today in a doubleheader against Harrisburg at Prince George’s Stadium.

Triple-A Norfolk catcher Austin Wynns has hit safely in 10 of his last 13 games and is 16-for-45 (.356) during that stretch, with two doubles, three home runs, nine RBIs, six walks, seven runs scored and six multi-hit games. Wynns leads the Tides in average (.333) and has thrown out six of 11 runners attempting to steal.
