Pedro Severino is catching tonight and Freddy Galvis is batting cleanup as the Orioles try to snap a 14-game losing streak and defeat the Twins for the first time since March 2018.
Trey Mancini is the designated hitter with Ryan Mountcastle at first base. DJ Stewart is in left field.
Rookie Bruce Zimmermann is making his ninth start and 10th appearance this season. He held the White Sox to one run over five innings with six strikeouts in his last outing.
Michael Pineda has a 2.62 ERA and 0.985 WHIP in eight starts. His last start came against the Orioles in Minnesota and he held them to one run and three hits in six innings with eight strikeouts.
Mancini homered off Pineda in the first inning.
Pineda has made 14 career starts against the Orioles and gone 6-3 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.187 WHIP.
The Orioles’ 14-game losing streak is tied for the second-longest in club history. They’ve lost 21 of 23 and are 0-16 versus the Twins since March 2018.
“This game is built on adjustments,” said catcher Austin Wynns, who joined the team yesterday. “We’re going to make an adjustment ,and we’re going to take a step forward and keep going. We’re all professionals in this game and we’ve got to make sure we do that.”
Wynns said he lost sleep last night over the Adam Plutko wild pitch in the 10th inning that allowed the tiebreaking run to score.
“I know that I should have blocked that and I take full responsibility for that, because the game could have been changed if I block that ball,” he said. “It won’t happen again. That’s the thing. All of us in our craft as a professional, you have to own it and get better. You have to not make those mistakes, bottom line.”
