The rematch is tonight in Buffalo, with the Orioles, more importantly, trying to break a 20-game road losing streak. They have gone 24 consecutive innings without a run.
Matt Harvey is winless since May 1, the last time he cleared the fifth inning. He hasn’t made it through the inning in his last nine starts and his ERA is up to 7.80.
Harvey allowed four runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings, with two walks, four strikeouts and a wild pitch, in Sunday’s loss to Toronto. He tired after throwing 29 pitches in the first, but said the outing was “much better.” The slider was producing swings and misses.
Anthony Santander is on the bench. Stewart is playing left field and Austin Hays right, with Mountcastle the first baseman and Trey Mancini the designated hitter.
Stevie Wilkerson starts at second base and Pedro Severino is behind the plate.
Alexander Wells, recalled today from Triple-A Norfolk, is looking to become the third Australian-born player in club history, joining right-hander John Stephens (from Sydney) in 2002 and left-hander Damian Moss (from Darlinghurst) in 2003.
Wells would be the 33rd Australian-born player in major league history and the first to make his debut since Twins outfielder Aaron Whitefield on July 25, 2020.
Manoah is making his sixth major league start. He’s averaging 2.7 home runs, 3.4 walks and 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings.
