The Orioles will try to snap a 17-game losing streak this afternoon and avoid their 16th sweep of the season while closing out their series against the Braves.

DJ Stewart, who’s receiving treatment for a sore knee, is in left field today. Ramón Urías is the third baseman and Jorge Mateo is playing second base.

Anthony Santander is in right field and batting cleanup.

John Means is making his first career start against the Braves. His ERA is a season-high 3.44 after he allowed four earned runs and seven total in four innings versus the Rays in his last start.

Means has surrendered five home runs in his last two starts over 8 1/3 innings.

Touki Toussaint is making his seventh start and has a 4.01 ERA and 1.099 WHIP in 33 2/3 innings. He’s struck out 35 batters.

Toussaint had allowed two earned runs in each of his three starts this month, totaling 16 2/3 innings. He’s started once against the Orioles, on Sept. 14, 2020 at Camden Yards, and allowed five earned runs and eight total with seven hits over 2 2/3 innings.

Stewart and Ryan Mountcastle homered.

Update: Manager Brandon Hyde said Wednesday night’s starter is still undecided. Reliever Chris Ellis was mentioned again as a possibility.

“Wednesday is still up in the air right now. We’re not sure which way we’re going, whether we’re going to do a bullpen game,” Hyde said.

“It’s kind of depending on today, it kind of depends, probably, on Tuesday’s game, how fresh we are. We do have some guys in the bullpen right now that have started, some length guys. Ellis, who just got here, has started in the minor leagues, as well. He just went four innings a few days ago. So, we’re just going to see where we are at that point. I think it will depend after Tuesday’s game.”

The tarp is on the field. A light rain fell earlier but the sky is clearing.

The Orioles (38-84) have been outscored 146-46 during their 17-game losing streak, which matches the Diamondbacks for longest in the majors this season. It’s the longest in the American League since the Mariners dropped 17 straight in July 2011.
