Trey Mancini is batting .345 (10-for-29) during his seven-game hitting streak. He collected his 600th career hit last night and is the sixth Orioles player who began his career with the team to reach that milestone in his first 583 games – the first since Manny Machado in 2016.
Left-hander John Means had a quality start in his last outing with three runs allowed in six innings against the Braves. In his two previous starts, he was charged with 10 earned runs and 13 total with 16 hits in 8 1/3 innings – though he walked only one batter and struck out 10.
Means allowed four earned runs and seven total in with eight hits in four innings against the Rays on Aug. 17. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out seven.
This is Means’ fifth start of the season against the Rays. He’s 0-2 with a 6.20 ERA and 1.525 WHIP in 20 1/3 innings. He’s walked two batters, struck out 20 and surrendered six of his 23 home runs.
Mike Brosseau is 5-for-11 with four home runs and six RBIs lifetime against Means, but he’s in the minors. Randy Arozarena is 6-for-10 with two doubles and two home runs, and Manuel Margot is 5-for-10 with a double.
Michael Wacha has a 5.88 ERA and 1.506 WHIP in 22 games (17 starts) this season. He’s made four starts this month and allowed 21 earned runs (22 total) and 38 hits in 19 innings.
Wacha has allowed nine runs and 18 hits in 12 innings this season in his three starts against the Orioles. Ryan Mountcastle, Pat Valaika, Cedric Mullins and Santander homered off him. Valaika is in the minors.
Mullins and Mountcastle are tied for the team lead with 23 homers.
